Digital Media Students Win First and Second Place in Niagara University PSA Competition - March 19, 2013

Digital Media students Alex Leo and Will Sattelberg took first and second place, respectively, in the High School Division of the 2013 Niagara University Media Awareness Public Service Announcement Student Video Competition. Alex, from Niagara Falls, and Will, from Newfane, are currently enrolled in the Video Production course at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center. Both PSAs focus on the topic of Media Violence. Alex's PSA aims to convince parents to talk to their kids about the video games they play and learn more about them. Will's goal was to promote awareness of the video game rating system, and encourage people to use it when purchasing games, especially for other people. Their winning entries were screened at the Annual Media Awareness Day at Niagara University in March. They also received certificates and a cash awards.​



Digital Media Students Produce Instructional Video for Martial Arts School - March 27, 2013
Three Digital Media students from the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center had the opportunity to get some real-world video production experience this spring at White's Martial Arts Studio in East Amherst. Owner Bob White enlisted the help of Digital Media Instructor Jennifer Licata, along with her students Graham Garven from Wilson, Alex Leo from Niagara Falls, and Jerry Scrivano from Wilson, to produce a Tai Chi instructional video that will supplement the classes offered by White. The students recorded footage on-location at the dojo, then completed the final editing in class. 

 

"The students were efficient and professional during the shoot, and the end result was superb", says White. I was impressed with their technical skill and maturity. When people see the video, they say, 'Wow!'."
 

NCTEC Digital Media Student Wins Award at Nichols Annual FLICK Fest - April 25, 2013

On Thursday, April 25, Nichols School held the 13th annual FLICK Fest Student Film and Video Contest. Digital Media student Alex Leo submitted his short film, "Math Homework", which was produced as a project for his Digital Media class at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center. Alex, from Niagara Falls, won the Squeaky's Choice Award, which included $100 worth of media workshops at the Squeaky Wheel media arts center in Buffalo.
 

​NCTEC Digital Media Student Wins Scholarship in Honor of Former NCTEC Graphic Communications Student - May 24, 2013

Alex Krull of North Tonawanda, who attends the Digital Media program at the Niagara Career and Technical Education Center, was the recipient of the third annual Matt Puchlerz Memorial Scholarship. The annual $1000 scholarship is designed for graduating seniors who plan to continue their education in the fields of web design or digital media arts. It was founded by the family of former NCTEC Graphic Communications student Matt Puchlerz, who passed away unexpectedly of Sudden Cardiac Death on September 1, 2010, at the age of 25. Alex plans to continue his education this fall at Daemon College, majoring in Animation.
